This Is a Bit More Than a Terrarium Shop.
Hello, I’m Gregg Harris. I’m the owner of Silver Falls Terrariums and I will be your instructor when you attend my Terrarium Planting Class.
I planted my first terrarium nearly 50 years ago in Laguna Beach, California at the age of 19 (I’m 70 now). That’s when and where I learned how to plant these beautiful terrariums. I am always amazed at how they mature and develop more character over time, just like us.
Terrariums have taught me that life is really a set of mutually beneficial, right relationships moving through time. We can all do very well for ourselves simply by doing good for one another, just like the plants and other lifeforms in a terrarium. That’s the way I try to live my life.
Over the years I’ve planted thousands of terrariums and taught hundreds of terrarium planting classes. I love sharing the wonders of God’s creation with others. Come experience the peacefulness and happiness of creating your own living work of art. I will walk you through the process.
By the way, you don’t have to worry about your terrarium ever dying on you because I (or whoever is here after I’ve gone to heaven), will take care of it for you. It will live successfully for decades and I guarantee it.
Come visit my little shop here in Silverton, Oregon. It’s just 60 minutes south of Portland and 20 minutes east of Salem, close by the Oregon Garden and Silver Falls State Park.
People often describe my shop as magical. But I prefer to say it’s miraculous. This is all part of God’s creation, not mine. I just get to rearrange what He has made. The shop is filled with tropical plants, live mosses, pretty rocks, minerals, crystals and fossils, colorful live dart frogs and fun figurines. It also offers the largest selection of terrarium glassware you will find anywhere in the country.
Behind the shop I am putting in an informal English garden with its own whimsical shade garden I call “fern gully.” It’s a nice, quiet place to sit down, have glass of ice tea, and visit for a while. The Science Behind Our Terrariums

Self-Contained
A true terrarium is self-contained. It recycles its water, carbon dioxide, and oxygen over and over again allowing it to be independent of the outside environment. Pictured Above: Short, Wide Apothecary Jar.

Temperature Protected
Plants inside the terrarium are protected from sudden changes of temperature that might otherwise put them into shock.

High Humidity
Plants inside the terrarium are also protected from the dry air in modern homes that quickly dehydrates their tender leaves.
